Mechanisms
Some Major Manufacturers offer a "limited lifetime guarantee" on the mechanism. This usually means that they will replace the mechanism free of charge to the original owner, if it ever breaksdown. You however; must pay the labor charge to have the old mechanism removed and the new one installed. Most problems with mechanisms are caused by someone using the footrest as an extra seat. This will almost always bend the extension arms to a point where they will never work correctly again. Other problems are rivet bearings wearing out, nylon main shaft bearings breaking (tilts the unit to one side and makes it difficult to extend the footrest), and loose bolts causing extra movement and wear.
frames
are the wooden structures that support the mechanism, seat springs and back supports. Repairs in this area may be as simple as regluing a loose joint, to very complicated as rebuilding an entire support structure. Other repairs in this area include replacing compression springs and spring clips and spring retainers. In most cases, it is necessary to remove some of the fabric to complete the repairs.
Power Recliners.
Power recliners are motorized units that are driven by one or more motors, and controlled by buttons built into the arm of the chair, or with a hand held controller. Units that have multiple motors may operate massage units, headrest movement, lumbar support, etc. If the chair does not function as designed, in most cases it is the cause of one of five things:The unit has come unplugged,(check all connections) the motor burned out, the remote control has shorted out, there is damage to one of the cords, or the power supply has failed. In most cases, parts may be ordered from the manufacturer or an online retailer.
